Teicoplanin
IP, Non Sterile
Teicoplanin is a glycopeptide antibiotic used primarily to treat serious bacterial infections caused by Gram-positive bacteria, particularly Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecalis, and Streptococcus species. Teicoplanin is produced through microbial fermentation, typically using Actinoplanes teichomyceticus, a type of soil bacterium. After fermentation, the active compound is extracted, purified, and crystallized to obtain the final teicoplanin API.
The teicoplanin API is used to manufacture injectable or intravenous formulations, primarily in the treatment of endocarditis, septicemia, bone and joint infections, and skin and soft tissue infections, often in cases where other antibiotics may not be effective.
